Fall Trends

According to Glamour – these are the 10 Fall Trends going on this year…

Copper Eyeshadow

This is the ideal halfway point between daytime neutrals and evening metallics. A shimmery copper shadow like Flirt’s Dreamy Eyeshadow in Bronze Splash ($9.50) works morning, noon and night and flatters all eye colors.  Give it a try using this insider’s trick: To draw attention to your bright blue, green, brown or hazel eyes, apply mascara to only the top lashes.

The Ponytail Loop

By now you know that pulling your hair back into a tight ponytail has a face-slimming effect. Adding a loop to your ponytail makes the flattering style look polished and pretty. To make hair extra glossy, run a hot iron through it. Next, pull hair through a new elastic as you would if securing a ponytail, but don’t pull hair all the way through the band—this way, the bottom of the tail forms a loop in the elastic. Pin the ends against the top part of your neck, and if your hair is long enough, take a 1-inch section of the ends and wrap it around the ponytail so it covers the band.

The No-Makeup Look

Did a bad night’s sleep dim your inner glow? No problem. Fake it by evening out skin tone with concealer and liquid foundation, then apply pink cream blush with a hint of shimmer—like Jane Iredale’s Cream Blush ($26)—to lids and cheeks. Add a little to lips and finish with a clear gloss. Bonus: A medium brown mascara completes the “I just woke up this way” makeup look.

Nude Nail Polish

We all love our daring reds and versatile baby pinks, but fall’s new nail polish trend—nude lacquer—comes with two great perks: These shades can make fingers and legs (when applied to a pedicure) seem longer. Plus, because the glossy color blends right into your own nail’s natural color, pesky nicks and chips are hard to see. Lippman’s creamy Fashion polish ($16) is great for both fingers and toes.

Glamour-Girl Waves

We can’t take credit for naming them, but we do know a few no-stylist-required shortcuts for creating those loose and undone waves. Option one: Apply styling cream like Frédéric Fekkai’s Luscious Curls Cream ($20) to damp hair, twist hair into a bun, hop in bed, and the morning, unwind and tousle hair. Option two: Separate dry hair into five to six sections and wind into large hot rollers. Leave in for 2 to 3 minutes, unclip and loosen curls with fingers.

The Scarlet Lip

Bright candy-red lips are just right for summer’s boardwalk dates and barbecues, but for fall, the deeper, sexier scarlet hues set the mood for romance. For the perfect pout, use a matching lip liner to trace lips before filling in with color. When finished, use a thin, stiff brush to add a little concealer on the skin just above or below the lip line, where needed.

The Side Part

Fancy up a low ballerina bun, chignon or ponytail by creating a side part and then pulling hair back. For a crisp part, squirt a little hair gel onto a thin-tooth comb and then brush flyaways into place.

Metallic Liner

Got a drinks or a date after work? A hint of glimmer is all you need to amp up your look for nighttime. Simply line top and bottom rims with your basic black and then edge just underneath the lashes with a glittery liner like Lorac’s Sparkle Pencil ($18), along with the outer and inner sides of eyes.

Super-Straight Hair

The ’90s pin-straight hair look is back again—no wonder, since a super-glossy mane makes the face and neck seem long and lean. But before you fire up the blow-dryer or whip out the flatiron, make sure you’ve prepped your hair. High heat  can quickly stress hair, so coat your strands with a protective coating like John Frieda Frizz-Ease Heat Protect Spray ($7), which keeps hair shiny and healthy-looking even after being clamped with 400-degree flatirons.

A Sense of Humor

We caught more than a few fun-loving models goofing off backstage—which reminded us that there’s nothing more attractive than a great sense of humor. So what if you have lipstick on your teeth or split ends or you lined only one eye? You’ll be the belle of any ball if you can laugh it all off.
